Futuristic fashion is on hold for now as old trends are coming back into focus. If the 80s were the strong point of the late 90s and turn of 21st century, the clock is rolling back again as the 60s and 70s help shape our fashion forecast. Here are the top four major fashion trends for the coming year.

60s Silhouettes

Just a couple years ago mini dirndl skirts were a top fashion contender. They only faded for a few years before being dug out of retirement and emerging with a late 50s, early 60s influence. The mini dirndl is here again with a full skirt, but the hem line has dropped back towards the knee and lower to create a major hourglass shape. The 60s jump in with sheath dresses that highlight the full feminine form. All are making their appearances this summer in light colors and prints.

70s Aesthetic

The trend that is definitely returning with a vengeance is the 70s flare jeans. The flares can be taken one of two ways, glam or boho. For a glam look it’s all about flares paired with refined blouses or light as air maxi dresses that create a long, lean line. For the boho style, match flares with sandals, loose untucked blouses and a floppy hat.

Punk Rocks

Part of the 70s, but in no way part of the flare fashion, punk and its rough edges, studded clothing and DIY appearance are here again. If buying full on punk fashion is not your plan, you can easily pair smaller accessories you may already own with your usual style for a harder look. The military boot is a major fashion trend, so go ahead and keep mixing them with skinny jeans. Opt for layers of edgy clothes like skinny jeans or leather cropped pants with a ripped shirt fastened together again with safety pins and a studded accessory. Even just a pair of studded heels can lend something heavy to an outfit.

Biker Babe

Easy to follow if you were already on board with the military styles of the past decade and punk fashions from the past and now, biker style is finally emerging as a full-on trend. With lots of zippers and belts, the trend is moving forward from the obvious biker look. Instead of a leather jacket simply filled out with biker details, now the jacket is being tailored for an hourglass shape and cinched with pastel belts. The other major style change is from the biker style leather pants with the quilted motifs, the same aesthetic is being applied to the biker mini skirt, quilting and all.

As they say, everything old is new again and that appears to be the trend for this year. Old looks are being brought back in full with 70s flares dominating the pack, while others are coming back in unexpected ways like the softer, more feminine biker look.
